Light over Angara
Federal Grid Company will secure the output of the Boguchanskaya HPP.
JSC FGC UES – the operator of the Unified national electrical grid has stepped up the construction tempo of the Boguchanskaya HPP generating units. This year, a total of around 1,100 km of power lines and 750 MVA of new transformer output will be put online. A new power station and main power lines to supply its electricity will ensure a reliable supply of electricity to millions of Siberian consumers during the reconstruction of the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP.
The winter of 2009-2010 was one of the hardest for Siberian energy workers. The loss of generating capacity of the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP was added to prolonged 30-40 degree frosts, which has significantly upped the pressure on the energy system. In these conditions, FGC UES, which operates the grid units with voltage of 220 kV and more, was able to guarantee the flow of energy from the nearby energy system and thus to stabilize the energy supply situation. In order to reliably go through the winter season, the company has quickly constructed a power line from Beya to Askiz and installed special equipment at two substations, which ensure a stable level of voltage in the energy system. FGC UES remains focused today on Siberian region. The company is actively building and reconstructing the grid objects in order to supply the output of the Boguchanskaya HPP currently under construction.
This work has two main dimensions. First of all, it is the construction of two power lines and the new 200 kV substation, as well as the reconstruction of two 220 kV substations in Krasnoyarsk region. The work is being undertaken according to the FGC UES investment program. Of about 10 billion rubles are diverted to this goal.
Secondly, FGC UES is conducting technical oversight of the construction of 500 kV energy units. Their construction is being done according the program of developing the Lower Angara region and is being funded from the federal budget of Russia.
A 220 kV power line from Boguchanskaya – Priangarskaya – Razdolinskaya will complete construction work by the end of 2010. The new 407 km main power line will go through the territory of Krasnoyarsk region. It will consist of two circuits running on separate supports. The construction is being done according to the latest Russian and international technologies. For example, the supports are built from compound steel. This will protect them from corrosion and will guarantee their reliability for many years. The construction workers are often working in very difficult natural and climate conditions. Namely, several rock formations had to be demolished in order to install the power line support foundation. Despite all this, the construction of the main power line is going strictly according to schedule. The most difficult portion of the line extension work, constructing an overpass over river Angara, was finished recently.
A new 220 kV Priangarskaya substation rated at 250 MVA is being constructed 7 km from the Boguchany village. It will divide the line into two segments: a 132 km section from Boguchanskaya HPP to Priangarskaya SS and a 175 km section between Priangarskaya to Razdolinskaya substations. The substation will be fully automated, fitted with new gas-insulated circuit breakers, as well as modern relay protection equipment and emergency control automatics. Installation of the main equipment will begin in the first days of May.
The expansion of the 220 kV Razdolinskaya SS in the Motyginsky district of Krasnoyarsk region is going full speed ahead. The building of the walls of the substation control room has been completed. A 220 kV switchboard is still being built at the Boguchanskaya HPP, as well as the expansion of the 220 kV Kodinskaya substation. Additionally, the key 500 kV energy units will start operations by the end of the year. These are the two power lines between Boguchanskaya HPP and Angara, and between Angara and Kamala, with a new substation at Angara and the reconstruction of the Kamala substation.
Over 2000 specialists and 600 pieces of equipment are working on the main grid units of power supply from the Boguchanskaya HPP. Such mobilization of forces and strict coordination between subcontractors and FGC UES allow for high construction tempo and scheduled beginning of the unit work by the end of 2010.
